Make sure you talk to the hospital staff when you arrive
It's important to tell hospital staff about your intention to breastfeed, and also tell them if you have brought colostrum into the hospital and ask them where the freezer is, so that you can store the colostrum until it is needed.
Remember, colostrum can help to treat low blood glucose levels in babies. Many babies born to mothers with diabetes will have low blood glucose temporarily, because they are no longer getting carbohydrates through the placenta.
