Being with your baby in the Special Care Nursery is important
When babies are in the Special Care Nursery, this can be very difficult for mothers. If you are separated from your baby, try to visit your baby to breastfeed and have skin-to-skin contact as often as possible.
If you've had a Caesarean section, the hospital staff can arrange for you to visit your baby in a wheelchair. If this isn't possible, your partner or another support person may be able provide the skin-to-skin contact and take expressed colostrum to the staff in the Special Care Nursery.
