Try to breastfeed as soon as possible
Try to breastfeed your baby as soon as possible after birth, within the first hour after birth. Colostrum and skin-to-skin contact with your baby are both very beneficial for your baby.
If it is not possible to breastfeed your baby soon after birth (for example, if your baby has to go to the Special Care Nursery), try to express some colostrum for the baby. Ask the hospital staff for help with this.
